Holton MF ST306 Bb Trumpet – Custom by KGUmusic

During customization, the original factory finish was fully removed. All acoustic and mechanical parameters were intentionally preserved, with upgrades focused on appearance, balance, and player comfort.

The following KGUmusic custom components were installed:
 • Signature finger rings – enhanced comfort and precise control
 • Saturn-style water keys – installed on the main tuning slide and the 3rd valve slide for faster, more ergonomic water drainage
 • KGUmusic Heavy Trim Kit – adds mass for improved stability, slotting accuracy, and projection

Finish & Surface Treatment

After completing all mechanical and cosmetic work, the trumpet underwent a two-stage finishing process:
 • A light patina was applied to subtly highlight the contours and character of the instrument
 • The surface was then sealed with a high-gloss, high-durability clear lacquer, providing long-term protection while preserving the visual depth of the patina

This finish enhances the instrument’s appearance without affecting its acoustic performance.

Sound & Playing Characteristics

True to its heritage, this trumpet delivers a powerful, open, and projecting sound, shaped by Maynard Ferguson’s direct influence on its design. The response remains fast and free-blowing, with excellent stability, especially in the upper register.
